Belsen Was a Gas

Here are the original handwritten lyrics for one of the Pistols' most controversial songs, 'Belsen Was a Gas'. It is reportedly in Sid's hand and dates back to late 1976, when he was in the Flowers of Romance. The Pistols started playing the song in September 1977 and Sid would later reclaim it as his own after the band split.

Belsen was a gas,
I read the other day,
about the open graves,
where the Jews all lay.

Life is fun, and
wish you were here,
was what they wrote on postcards
to who they held dear

Belsen was divine,
if you survived the train
then when you get inside,
it's Aufiedersein.
